Peter Reardon
Peter Reardon
Chief Operating Officer
Peter has over 30 years industry experience primarily in mining and risk engineering work and equipment providers (design and manufacturing) to the mining and construction industries. He has worked in all aspects from design, scheduling, development, production, maintenance, human resources, and spent several years as a Registered Mine Manager with Rio Tinto. As the Mine Manager, he had industry wide input into development of standards and legislation for the metalliferous mining industry. This included a sitting member of the NSW Minerals Industry Safety Advisory Committee (MISAC) and active participation with the NSW Minerals Council. He provided input into the development of a range of National Competency Units through the 1990’s when the formal training/assessment framework was quite new for the mining industry. This included leading a small team to register Peak Gold Mines as an RTO in the 90’s in order to drive best practice in training/assessment in the industry. By 1999 this culminated with some of the first miners in Australia receiving a formal Cert II and Cert III qualification in underground mining.
After completing a successful career as a mining professional, he utilised his experience in the practical application of mine design and operations, risk and emergency management in a broader consulting role across a range of industries such as gas, mining, construction and equipment design/manufacturing. During the last 20 years, he has been sought by major companies to assist on significant loss events such as fatal incidents in an advisory and investigative role, in the design of Major / Principal Hazard Management programs and to establish comprehensive risk and legal compliance management programs for new resource projects (up to and >$1B) in various countries around the world (Greenfields and Brownfields projects). This work has included the development use of leading edge risk and compliance management software using on-line Bow Ties integrated with the Safety Management System and mapped to legislation (dynamic cross-matrix to risk and legal compliance requirements). This experience has also led to a range of requests outside the minerals industry (e.g.) Dreamworld after the tragedy on a theme park ride (4 customers fatally injured) to provide guidance on improving their risk management practices and strategy. He has been a lead investigator and emergency/recovery advisor for 8 fatal incidents and over 30 other significant incidents throughout his career. Projects have included assignments in all states of Australia, Papua New Guinea, China, Indonesia, Canada and Turkey for the likes of Newcrest, MMG, Rio Tinto, Xstrata, BHP Billiton and equipment manufacturers such as Joy, Atlas Copco, Sandvik and Caterpillar. The blend of practical mining experience establish and managing an underground mine, working internationally for large corporations; investigating and managing the recovery from significant loss events; conducting audits; establish preventative programs such as facilitating risk assessments, developing management plans, mentoring personnel; and assisting legal firms to defend prosecutions against company officials and organisations, gives Peter a unique balance to his risk and compliance management expertise. International solutions have been developed, implemented and supported for companies operating across multiple countries utilising the HUB Integrated Information Management software.
